KESA

Kesa is the Japanese word for the outer robe worn by Zen monks, traditionally patched together from fabrics discarded by the community. There is a patchwork element to painting, grappling as it does with the revisions of art history and the fragmentary nature of contemporary culture. There is a humbling element as well, finding one's place in the mix, simply becoming a part of things as they are.
